Returning the Portal

returningportal.jpg

A large party of exiles from many different clans, including Darkhorse, Dwarven Militia, Light & Shadow, Neko No Kessha, Pogue Mahone, Puddlebean Ornithological Society, Red Quill, Rising Claw, Sun Dragons, ThoomCare and others are presently engaged in moving the portal back to the Dark Cloud.

Update: what follows are some images from the return of the portal to the Dark Cloud.

...and the Mighty Dwarven Militia, @#$%!

Posted by: Callus on July 20, 2003 05:00 PM

So noted!

Posted by: Para on July 20, 2003 05:02 PM

Just for the record, it was originally Highlander's idea, but I did most of the organizing (with help from many, especially Veer). :)

Thanks to the many, many people who waited patiently until we had waaay too many people and could easy handle it. :)

Go Puddleby!

Well, it appears someone has moved it again. Both portals are now in Falinea's garden. :-/

Posted by: Mouser on July 21, 2003 05:50 AM

NOT a big deal. You just move it down a few snells to the mirror again.

It's going to get moved sometimes. You just have to move it back, and that's not that hard.

Posted by: Blinker on July 21, 2003 06:18 AM

Who ever put the portal in the cloud, I'm shure your intentions were right, but you put the yellow end of the portal up there witch kind of makes the yellow mirror usles and makes the only non leathal exit of the mirror the portals them selfs witch is painfull for those of us with little mentus.

Posted by: on July 21, 2003 09:05 AM

Er, have you tried walking into the mirror with the purple sparkles? It's just a little bit west of the mirror with the green sparkles.

Posted by: Coriakin on July 21, 2003 09:40 AM

I think you are a little out of date with the mirror technology, anonymous poster, the mirrors both lead safely to their respective portals.
its only using the portal to portal transport that drains your health

I recommend that you don't list a bunch of clans in the future because you're likely to forget some and members of those clans will be disappointed.

Posted by: on July 21, 2003 09:58 AM

Life can be full of disappointments, it's true. But I'd rather add some life to a story by listing some of the clans who participated, and I've added those I've missed too, when notified.

Posted by: Para on July 21, 2003 11:02 AM

You've given Kojiro such a prominent place in the clip (the only speaking part) you should probably add Darkhorse clan. ;)

Posted by: Lorikeet on July 21, 2003 11:07 AM

Indeed, I'll add Darkhorse later today when I update the piece! =)

Posted by: Para on July 21, 2003 11:46 AM

And, of course, a few members of Rising Claw were in attendence!

Oh, wait, you mentioned us! Silly Odes!

Posted by: Odes on July 21, 2003 12:13 PM

Now i maybe out of touch but i dont see a problem with the teleporter being in the Trainers grotto, unless im missing something?

Posted by: Fundin on July 22, 2003 12:05 AM

Its not that having it in trainers grotto is a bad place its just that there are more people who enjoy hunting the cloud than would enjoy hunting OOB and having easy acess to trainers for 4th circle and above fighters.

That last point is the one most people focus on when thinking of the portal in the grotto, they think that because those trainers are of no use to them there is no point in having the portal there, whereas on the cloud they can CW to their hearts content

Posted by: Mjollnir on July 22, 2003 03:14 AM

Lets not get into a "more people enjoy area X that is easily available because of the teleporters" arguement.

The cloud is boring. sure its good coins if you have the skea for it, but thats about it.

And who's to say there are more people who would enjoy hunting the cloud than OOB?

Who's to say that there isn't TONS of people who'd LOVE to hunt OOB, without first wasting 1 hour+ of hunting time by passing thru the junk snells of Snaggy. And then having to have the rodding power for HH.

Perhaps the reason that there aren't more OOB hunts is because the amount of time involved in getting there is too much for most of the folks who would want to hunt there.

I'd wager to say, that *if* the portal had stayed in the grotto, you would have seen MUCH MORE OOB hunting than cloud hunting.

Anyhow, I'm not saying the portals have a right or wrong place to be. Just that your statement is skewed. possibly by the majority of people you hunt with, or because of the timezone you play in (ie: a different caliber of player, thus needing/wanting faster transportation to a different area)

again, these are only opinions =D

Posted by: NB on July 22, 2003 05:29 AM

Btw NB, I am sure you are quite capable of running Snaggy . I don't know of any group whose stated goal is to get through HH who stops to hunt Snaggy. A Snaggy hunt to HH usually has a different goal than getting through HH.

Posted by: Lorikeet on July 22, 2003 08:36 AM

You're probably right although my sencond point is still valid.
When you think about the portal being in the grotto was your first thought great now i can hunt OOB more easily, or was it now there's easier access to the trainers? mine was.
The reaction to that is instinanious, that doesnt benefit me so its a bad place to be.

Considering the general spread of levels there are probably more people who would find an OOB hunt fun and challenging, but there are still a lot of people who think exactly the same about the cloud.
Hunting the cloud is still above my level so its a good place i can go with a small group and get coins and exp whereas hunting OOB is well out of my league as it is for most 2nd circlers and probably some 3rds if they arnt able to go in a group.

[This comment is for the GM's as much as players]

My only concern with the location of the portals is that there should be a way to get to the cloud for those of us that missed our chance to activate the mirror. I'm a Full Hermit PF, so getting to the SF Mirror only takes about 3-5 minutes from TC (at most)....but I can't use the SF Mirrror (or at least it hasn't worked for me the last 3 times I've tried it...but I haven't tried since the last Chaos Storm).

As long as there's a way on (and off) the cloud, somewhere reasonably close to town, I don't care where the other exit is.

If the SF Mirror would just work for everyone (and if there were a permanent exit back to the SF Mirror), I don't think most people would care where the other portals went to (with in reason...dropping people into instant death is probably not going to be a popular choice for anyone ;).

There is a way to the cloud for everyone. Of course, you have to be at the mirror when the cloud is overhead, which is extremely rare. CloudGM, shouldn't the mirror exert some sort of magnetic force that ends up with the cloud overhead a bit more often, heh?

Posted by: Snuggle Bear on July 22, 2003 09:11 AM

The cloud is probably over the mirror according to some cycle that takes place over a long period of time and that we haven't figured out because it's only happened once...

Posted by: Aravir Eldanar on July 22, 2003 01:05 PM

To Lori: ya, the way I worded it came out wrong, I meant snaggy+HH.

Even when you just run snaggy you still have the chance of some folks falling off snells, or falling period

Posted by: NB on July 22, 2003 02:48 PM

3 of my clan mates got into the mirror just this past Sunday, so perhaps the cloud is overhead more often than most of us seem to think.

Posted by: Lundar on July 22, 2003 05:02 PM

Yes, there is a cycle, and yes, the next time it will pass over the mirror can be determined. Parties interested in the purchase of such information should contact me.
