Cap of the Wild

Hoggle sent the following report to TMN:

Greetings Puddlebians! I have made a wondrous discovery! In my regular travels this morning, I discovered an odd Ranger of sorts! (Names have been obscured to protect their privacy from scrying eyes.)

hoggle-cap1.gif

It seems he offers to craft a cap for rangers. Being the fashionable dwarf that I am, this new cap intrigued me!

hoggle-cap2.gif

I don't recall ever seeing a "Rugged Snow Feral" but I do know of the whereabouts of normal Snow Ferals. A few hours of killing feral after feral had me wondering If I should search elsewhere.

hoggle-cap3.gif

Then BINGO! Looking exactly like a normal snow feral, these creatures are easily mistaken for their less rugged kin.

hoggle-cap4.gif

But its never that easy is it? After going all the way back to XXXXXXX, I was informed that I need to have XXXXXX tan the pelt for me. A quick trip to see XXXXXX reveals that I still have some work to do!

hoggle-cap5.gif

A discovery from a few days prior lets me know exactly what I was to do next. Die pelt die! I submerge my pelt into the sea and let the salts do their work. Glub... glub... glub.

hoggle-cap6.gif

A trip back to XXXXX results in a properly tanned hide, and so I hurry back to XXXXXX to see what he has to say about this newly tanned Rugged Snow Feral pelt. He seems impressed by XXXXX's work.

You can see what my answer was to his offer. An awesome wolf cap that is clearly the most fashionable thing this side of Puddleby.

And now the part that I was wondering about this whole time.. What does it do? A brief trip to Metz reveals its of 0 defensive value, but on that same island, I find its true benefit. I'm not going to spoil what it does, but I will say this: I am glad I trained Respin!

So whats wrong with a Ranger being able to ask a Mystic to get some help on locating the NPC? If GMs didn't want us to be able to locate an NPC then they would make it do we couldn't.

Well I got my hide but I can't find that damned NPC!

Posted by: Stonehand on November 5, 2009 07:31 AM

You could have kept this secret a little while longer Hoggle. The damn snowy areas are packed with Rangers now! I am glad that you blocked out their names however.

Buuuull. Another Hoggle trick. There's a typo in the NPC speech box. Well done hoax, but not convincing enough!

Posted by: Suu'ub on November 5, 2009 10:04 AM

Of course, a typo MUST mean it's fake. There have never been spelling or grammar errors in NCP text before. Not once. Ever. :/

I never know whether to believe these or not.

Posted by: Lundar on November 5, 2009 01:26 PM

I have to admit hunting snowy on cloud for about an hour and a half was fun even if I was searching for a "rugged snow feral" that didn't exist.

Posted by: Tafari on November 5, 2009 02:13 PM

You've just gotta get them to hang out in bars, eat glass, and not bathe. After awhile, they'll be pretty rugged.

Posted by: Stars on November 5, 2009 02:29 PM

Why is all the new content focused on rangers? I finally found a pelt on KI cove, but I can't use the bloody thing. Find me in-game and make a fair offer, and it's yours. Grumble.

Posted by: Skirwan on November 5, 2009 02:48 PM

I only recall ever seeing one typo on an NPC before. There are about 5 english and grammar mistakes in this photo set ;P "Propperly" (properly), Cap of the "wild" lower case in first photo, Wild capitol in the next. "Oh, thats a nice.." would be "that's" and it also seems like a line from mango when you sell an axe that would be "Oh! that's a nice looking axe you've got there..." and I also think the Pelt is capitolized with the albino and puma. Plus if it's a white cap, wouldn't Hoggle have a white cap...

Posted by: Suu'ub on November 5, 2009 05:57 PM

Wow, thats some kind of deconstruction of my story there. You've skillfully picked out all the flaws! Next up, Suu'ub calls Malkors royal spriggin lineage into question! Watch as he takes on Whatzits! Could they really be nothing more than items people have renamed?

Posted by: Hoggle on November 5, 2009 06:23 PM

Capital, not capitol. That is all.

Posted by: on November 5, 2009 08:41 PM

Yeah, probably unnecessary, but you called me out on it! 2 of my clanmates said they spent 2 hours camping snowy hunting snow feral pelts. I said it was a good story, but a good story and a good hoax are 2 different things. If you're trying to pull off a good hoax you have to expect people investigate and be skeptical.

Posted by: Suu'ub on November 5, 2009 10:37 PM

Hmm, no one believe Hoggle had found huge snails either...

Remember to "/bug slarti " when you /bug this!

I took these images and magnified them, guess what I found when I zoomed in. ENTIRELY MADE UP OF PIXELS.

The Sala who posted the first comment isn't "Sala" but most likely "Salandra" and is a name thief.

My eye is also on Salazar.

Posted by: Sala on November 6, 2009 02:35 PM

The Sala who was not the first to post was likely "Salad" and has been trying to have his name changed for a very long time to reflect this. I, the real Sala, will offer to pay the 10 dollar fee to help him out and have this oversight corrected. =o

Use full names, people! I'm tired of all the Salaing.
